Made Switra and Robert Koke's surfers board

ride wave kuta bali
Robert Koke was an American who came to Bali in 1930 and surfing the waves. Balinese young boys amazed to see him stood up on the oddly shaped board and riding it over the waves on Kuta Beach. That ancient surfboard was more like a piece of roughly shaped wood. Whenever the Japanese came to Bali on a sudden Koke left. The surfing board was found by Made Switra’s grand father who then took it home and used it as aboard for cutting fish. As we know by now that Made Switra is one of Indonesia’s best surfers.

Made Switra admitted that at first people in Bali looked on surfers as low people. But after years loving the ocean and surfing, Mad had finally managed a career out of something he loved doing. According to Made Switra, the development of Bali’s surfing industry has raised the profile of the sport in Indonesia. Balinese is no longer see it as low level sport but the elite one. People from the city are looking for surfing products to wear and that makes surfing more respectable.
